That's thanks a lot in large part to a method called cryo-electron microscopy, which today received three scientists (Jacques Dubochet, Joachim Frank, and Richard Henderson) the Nobel Prize for chemistry. Their work has uncovered the state of biological particles like protein by combining beams of electrons with very, exceptionally cool temperatures, in the process reforming the field of biochemistry.
