What Are the Most Popular Beauty Products, and Why?

Beauty trends change quite frequently, and by the end of this article they may have changed again, but let’s get into what is popular right at this very moment.  Natural and organic beauty products are very popular right now because they don’t use chemicals that can be harmful to your skin.  The products are made with natural ingredients that nourish the skin, and actually provide minerals and nutrients that are absorbed and make your skin healthy.
Why are these products so popular?  What do they do that is so much better than the traditional makeup that has been sold containing chemicals?  To determine the answer to these questions I will examine what ingredients different products contain, and the healing qualities that they have.  Then we’ll take a look at what some of the chemical ingredients are and what the possible side effects are.  It’s always important to check lotion bottle labels to make sure all ingredients are natural.

One of the most popular beauty products sold are moisturizers. The secret to healthy looking skin is hydration, and natural shea butter lotion is by far the best product I have ever used on my face and my body.  Shea butter comes from shea nuts that are crushed, roasted, and slightly processed to for the soft, silky, and slightly smoky butter that has many uses.  The process involves adding water to the crushed paste and separating out the oil and fat curds which then form the golden butter.

It is a skin emollient and makes the surface of your skin quite soft and pliable.  The natural oils and fats in the final product are what give this ingredient such exceptional results.  Fats are bad for your cholesterol, but very good for the skin. It is used in Ghana to protect the skin during the dry season.  It also has anti-inflammatory properties and is often used as an ointment.
On the contrary, some moisturizers contain petrochemicals, like petroleum; this ingredient has the opposite of the intended effect that moisturizes are supposed to have.  Petroleum will not actually moisturize the skin below the surface; it simply sits on the skin and makes it seem moisturized, while the skin slows down its own natural oil production.

Phthalates are a bit more dangerous, yet are unregulated in food, cosmetic, and medical products.  They are however considered toxic waste if they are present in air or water.  The damaging effects of phthalates are endocrine disruption, reproductive defects, insulin resistance, and thyroid irregularities to name a few. Custom lotion bottle labelsdon’t always have these ingredients listed, so if you are looking for a moisturizer or any beauty product, make sure to do your research.

Some products labeled “organic” or “natural” may only have one or two ingredients that are, the criteria doesn’t require all ingredients to be.  Many companies are realizing the benefits to our appearance and overall health and well-being by using these organic products, and we will only see its continued growth the more it’s affects are noticed by consumers.
